Message from the Chairperson, Tahreni Bwanaali

Dear friend,
Many areas of Lamu District are remote, underdeveloped and neglected, but they do not have to remain so. The people in these areas are unique, intelligent and capable. All they need is leadership, guidance and support to enable them to live a better life. ILHAM offers an opportunity for people within Lamu, and those from outside, to help the communities in the areas.
ILHAM has supported a number of girls to further their education aimed at building up new leaders and new ideas for social change. We are proud to announce our success and hope to inspire thousands, including the next generation of your leader
ILHAM (Inspiration for Lamu - Helping and Mentoring) is a non-political and not for profit Community Based Organisation (CBO) whose mission is to work with others to inspire and assist in the advancement of the economy of women in Lamu District by improving education and health of women and children in the area.
The organisation seeks for the co-operation and affiliation with individuals, government, authorities and other organisations to engage in services for the welfare of women and children in Lamu District.

Like in many other areas, women in Lamu District are significantly more affected than men by the issues at hand and thus warrant for action towards providing assistance, support and inspiration in order to empower the group to advance their education, healthcare and economy.
ILHAM believes that women can be key agents of change if they are educated, empowered, facilitated and involved since they are the primary victims of risky situations. Assisting women and girls will result in better services for all and benefit entire communities.
The inspiration is therefore by the Lamu women, with the Lamu women and for the Lamu women and children. It is an inspiration for those who have and are more fortunate to share in any way with those who do not have and are less fortunate.
